Terms & rental conditions

01Who may drive

The driver must be at least 25 years old and have held a full driving licence for a minimum of two years. Visitors driving themselves also require an International Driving Permit or a temporary Tanzanian permit, which we can arrange within one working day.

Only drivers named on the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. Allowing an unnamed person to drive voids the insurance entirely.

02Deposit and payment

A refundable security deposit is taken before the vehicle is released and returned in full within three working days of a clean return. Rental charges are payable in Tanzanian Shillings by cash, bank transfer or mobile money.

Rates quoted are per 24-hour day. A late return of more than two hours is charged as a further day.

03Fuel and mileage

Vehicles are supplied with a full tank and must be returned full. Any shortfall is charged at the pump price plus a refuelling fee.

Mileage within Tanzania is unlimited. Travel outside Tanzania requires written agreement in advance so that COMESA insurance and border paperwork can be prepared.

04Insurance and liability

Every vehicle carries comprehensive insurance and the third-party cover required by Tanzanian law. The renter remains liable for the insurance excess unless an excess-reduction waiver was purchased at booking.

Insurance does not cover damage caused by driving under the influence, driving outside the agreed route, submerging the vehicle in water, or damage to tyres, windscreen and undercarriage caused by negligence.

05Breakdown and accidents

Call our 24-hour number immediately. In the event of an accident, report to the nearest police station and obtain a police report — the insurer will not process a claim without one.

If a vehicle cannot be repaired the same day, we will send a replacement vehicle to you at no additional charge.

06Cancellation

Cancellations made more than 48 hours before pick-up are refunded in full. Within 48 hours, one day of hire is retained. No-shows are charged one full day.

For multi-day safari bookings during the migration season we ask for seven days notice, as those vehicles are held out of the schedule for you.

07Prohibited use

Vehicles may not be used for racing or off-road competition, to carry passengers for hire outside an agreed contract, to transport dangerous goods, or for any unlawful purpose. Smoking inside the vehicle attracts a cleaning charge.
