Mwanza sits closer to the Serengeti's western gate than any other city in Tanzania. Ndabaka is about four hours from our yard — you can leave after breakfast and be watching game before lunch.
Serengeti National Park
The closest gate to Mwanza. Ndabaka is roughly four hours from the city, which puts you in the park the same morning you leave — and in the middle of the migration between May and July.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
A collapsed caldera holding some 25,000 animals inside its walls, including the black rhino. The crater floor descent needs proper low-range 4WD — which is exactly what a Land Cruiser is built for.
Mwanza Region
Our home water. Bismarck Rock at sunset, the ferry to Ukerewe, Saanane Island National Park inside the city, and the granite kopjes that give Mwanza its name — Rock City.
Northern Circuit
Baobab country and the biggest elephant herds in the north, paired with the tree-climbing lions and flamingo shallows of Lake Manyara. A good short circuit if the Serengeti is not on the schedule.
Lake Victoria
A forested island national park in the south-west of the lake — chimpanzees, sitatunga and some of the best birding in Tanzania, with almost no other vehicles on the tracks.
Nationwide
Mwanza to Arusha, Dodoma, Dar es Salaam or Kigoma — long tarmac and long gravel. Two drivers on request for the overnight legs, and the fuel plan agreed with you in writing beforehand.
